Real Bride – Olwyn and James’s relaxed country wedding

Real Bride – Olwyn and James’s relaxed country wedding

Olwyn came to see us back in 2021, because she was very petit, we need to find a dress that didn’t swamp her and that flattered her figure. After trying on a few dresses, it was clear that an A-line skirt was the way forward. Olwyn loved lace and preferred a more contemporary lace to the traditional embroidered lace. When Olwyn tried on a discontinued Emma Hunt dress, and it all came together. It was perfect, with its silk Dutchess satin A-line skirt and guipure lace bodice, with a Jackie O vibe, it was just what Olwyn was looking for. Tell us about the journey to your wedding day?

James proposed on a sunny October morning in 2020, at one of our favourite spots on the Malvern Hills.

Following some initial disappointment when our first venue fell into some financial difficulty, we re-started our wedding planning in Summer 2021. We soon stumbled across our perfect wedding venue – a cosy hotel, with a beautiful church close by, nestled within a quaint Cotswolds village – and the saying of ‘everything happens for a reason’ seemed completely appropriate.

Tell us about your wedding day. What was your theme? Did it all go to plan? What was your most memorable moment?

We wanted a traditional wedding, but with a relaxed feel. We wanted to use local suppliers and locally sourced produce as much possible. All our suppliers were from the Cotswolds / Oxfordshire area. As a keen gardener and flower-enthusiast, I was particularly delighted with our florist, Grace, who uses flowers grown on her plot at Hartley Farm, near Bradford upon Avon.

Would you do anything different? What tips would you give couples from your experience of planning your wedding and the day itself?

Everyone is different so focus on what is important to you as a couple and create a day that reflects your personalities and interests.

Tell us about what you had in mind for your wedding gown?

A classic and traditional design, but with a contemporary feel at the same time. I found I was more drawn to the A-line shapes with some lace. More contemporary wedding dress styles

Tell us about your experience with Boho Bride

My dress was a discontinued find from Emma Hunt, bought possibly one or two sizes too big, but meticulously altered to fit me perfectly by the team at Boho Bride. Lynette and Jen worked incredibly hard to ensure all the alterations were completed to the highest standard. I was very pleased with my dress. Read our review page for more kind words

Tell us how you accessorised your wedding gown

I wore some jewellery that was special to me, a veil from Britten and a flower crown.
