Our competition winner Imi finally got to wear her dress
Imi won our Valentine’s Day Competition back in 2021 for a made to measure wedding dress to the value of £1,500 from our Freedom Collection range. To say she was excited would be an understatement. When we emailed her with the news after announcing it on our social media posts she said “I was smiling all day yesterday and I still am! I still can’t believe it!”
Fast forward to January 2022 when Imi came for her first fitting so we could start making her dress for the wedding in May.
Imi loaved the Freedom Collection and chose to have a lace floral bolero in pinks and sage green, which meant she had to change her original colour scheme for the wedding day.
Here is Imi and Ben’s wedding day story in their own words.
Tell us about the journey to your wedding day?
My husband Ben and I met him on tinder back in 2016 and we hit it off straight away and when me met up we just clicked and I knew this was going to something special even though I went to America during the start of the relationship, we were planning adventures and trips when I was over there, we moved in with each other quite shortly after, had loads of trips and memories over the past years. On our 4th year anniversary, we had a lovely day out and a fantastic meal at Miller and Carter he asked me to go outside, and he asked me to marry him!
We celebrated that evening and a week later we had a meal with family a few days later we went into a national lock down Trust us!! Those two years went past so quickly we couldn’t believe it and the day was here!!
Tell us about your wedding day. What was your theme? Did it all go to plan? What was your most memorable moment?
Our original theme was Rustic with blue and silver and them I choose my wedding dress and then it had to change! Our theme was rustic and Boho theme in the end- everything went so well nothing went wrong which I couldn’t believe at all! We had beautiful weather from the moment I woke up! The most memorable moment was me arriving about 10 minutes late and a surprise for the groom which myself and the best man planned all with in 2 days!
The surprise!
The best man and I had an idea in mind for a while, but we didn’t have anything planned. Literally 2 days before the wedding I sent him a video and thought nothing of it, but he was up for it! I left it up to him if he wanted to do it. The best man Andy was dressed in a green dress, and he had a mask with a photo of my face on and he started to do a lap dance on ben and at the end he lifted his leg up with a garter on and he pulled the mask off and bens face he was so shocked! The whole room was in laughter Ben couldn’t believe what happened and no one could believe their eyes! It was so funny!!
Would you do anything different? What tips would you give couples from your experience of planning your wedding and the day itself?
I would have our ceremony inside no matter what the weather it was such a hot day, and the wind was high and if you have an outside venue at any point, please make sure someone has suncream to hand!!
Tips for future Bride and Grooms-make sure anything you do about planning your wedding is down to yourself not let anyone make you change anything and have a moment to yourself during the day as it goes so quickly!! If you want to wear trainers underneath your dress, do it, the best thing I ever did! Plus no one sees them!
Tell us about what you had in mind for your wedding gown?
I wanted something the covers my top of my arms but something different from your traditional wedding dress.
Tell us how you found Boho Bride
I found Boho Bride though another bride called Laura who funny enough got married the day after me. I was looking at Boho Facebook page for a while and then I saw that they were doing a competition and I entered thinking nothing of it and I actually won I couldn’t believe it!!
Tell us about your experience with Boho Bride
My experience with Boho Bride was second to none the minute I walked in I felt so relaxed and treated so well and felt like part of their family. I had quite a few fitting appointments because my dress was from the Boho Bride Freedom Collection dress, which is a made to measure collection there were quite a few changes from the original drawing Luci did. I was also on a weightless journey, so she made sure the dress fitted perfectly at every stage. Lynette was fantastic and giving me different ideas and was just fantastic all round I found the whole experience amazing, with lots of laughs along the way the best way for a bride to be when it comes to her dream dress!
Even when my flowergirl came in Luci and Lynette taught her about beading and Luci brought in a pack of beads in for her to practice at home.
Tell us how you accessorised your wedding gown
I wanted to keep it simple as the dress was amazing in itself so opted for a long veil with pearls which I tried on the first appointment I had, also Lynette made me a bustle pin so my train could be pinned up for the evening do and she made me a matching lace hair comb to fit over the comb of the veil and when I took my veil off I had something pretty in my hair.
What did you feel like in your wedding gown?
I felt like a princess, and I wish I could wear it everyday!!!
A massive thank you to Lynette and Luci I know you had to keep taking inches of the dress but I knew no matter what you both made sure I look like a beautiful bride! I miss our appointments and I miss you both!! xxx
